Mountain View, CA December 17, 2025 Google has rolled out a significant update to its Gemini web app, integrating Opal, its experimental no-code AI mini-app builder, directly into the Gems manager.
This new feature allows users to create reusable, multi-step AI workflows essentially polished mini-apps without writing any code. Standard Gems are customized chatbots that follow specific instructions, but the new "Gems from Labs," powered by Opal, offer structured interfaces with visual workflows, user inputs, and multi-modal outputs, including text, images, and video.

Users can access the integration at gemini.google.com by navigating to the Gems section in the sidebar, where a new "Gems from Labs" area features premade examples like Recipe Genie, which suggests meals from leftover ingredients with AI-generated visuals, and Claymation Expert for quirky infographics.
The feature is experimental, available in English on desktop/web for creation (apps runnable elsewhere), and requires a personal Google account for users 18+. Data is stored separately in Drive.
This move positions Gemini as a burgeoning AI app platform, lowering barriers compared to competitors like custom GPTs.
